Abstract:
Winamp, the classic local music player that was once popular all over the world in the PC era, recently officially announced that it will return to the mainstream music market with a new attitude. The parent company Winamp Group has reached an in-depth strategic cooperation with Deezer, a well-known French music streaming platform, and plans to launch a new generation Winamp player that integrates local music management and online streaming services in the first half of 2027.
This move marks that this legendary software, which was born in the late 1990s, has officially started a new development campaign to fully embrace the streaming media era after undergoing many transformation attempts.

Under the cooperation agreement announced by the two parties, Deezer will open its white-label streaming technology architecture and global music library containing more than 100 million tracks to Winamp. Based on this, Winamp will launch a premium paid subscription service with its own brand identity and deeply embed it in the new version of Winamp client. The official team stated that the new platform was designed to reshape the player experience in the streaming media era and completely break down the barriers between local offline files and online audio streaming.
The new version of Winamp player will no longer be limited to a single online music playback mode, but will feature an all-round audio integration center function. Users can not only seamlessly manage local MP3 music libraries stored on their personal computers or clouds in the same interface, but can also directly call Deezer's huge music library and listen to online radio and podcast programs. In addition, the new version of the software will also introduce highly customizable interface themes, social interaction functions and a new music discovery mechanism, trying to retain Winamp’s classic humanistic core while providing a differentiated user experience from mainstream single streaming platforms.
Looking back on its development history, Winamp has become a symbol of digital music enlightenment for countless PC users with its extremely rich skin replacement functions and iconic audio visualization effects. However, with the rise of the streaming media model, the single local player market has shrunk rapidly, and Winamp has also experienced copyright changes and transformation pains. Despite facing the challenge of a highly concentrated market structure, Winamp Group CEO Alexandre Saboundjian said that by integrating top streaming infrastructure with a unique player interactive experience, Winamp looks forward to creating an integrated new home for global music lovers who desire to control their own listening experience.
