Google Chrome Canary tests horizontal tab scrolling. You can use the mouse wheel to switch when opening a large number of tabs.

Abstract:

The Google Chrome Canary beta is currently bringing new features to users who continue to use landscape tabs. This feature allows users to quickly switch using the tab bar arrows or mouse wheel when a large number of tabs are open. It also supports switching through touchpad gestures.

At present, Google browser already supports vertical tabs, but many users continue to use horizontal tabs. When too many tabs are opened, each tab is very small and difficult to switch. Therefore, Google feels it is necessary to add new functions to assist users in switching to different tabs.

Scroll to find tabs that have been pushed out of view:

Traditional horizontal tabs are located at the top of the browser. As more web pages are opened, the titles of the tabs will be compressed. When the display range of the tab bar is exceeded, some tabs will also be removed from view.

The new horizontal scrolling feature allows users to browse tabs while retaining the top tab bar by moving the mouse pointer to the tab bar and using the mouse wheel to quickly switch; using touchpad gestures to scroll; and clicking the left and right arrows at the end of the tab bar to switch.

Pinned tabs will continue to occupy their own space:

Tabs actively pinned by users have higher priority, so the new version of the tab bar also sets up a separate area for pinned tabs. When users scroll through ordinary tabs, pinned tabs will remain on the left side of the tab bar, making it easier for users to find frequently visited websites at any time with the mouse.

Google stated that the fixed tab area can be expanded to up to 50% of the available tab bar width, so even if the user pins multiple commonly used tabs, the remaining space can still be used for ordinary, non-fixed tab display, and the user can scroll to view when it exceeds the field of view.

Tips: Google also tested horizontal tab scrolling before, but the feature was later removed. What is added this time is Google's newly designed tab page horizontal scrolling, adding a fixed tab area and adjustable scroll buttons.

Turn on via experimental option:

If you have the Canary version of Google Chrome installed, you can manually enable horizontal tab scrolling through an experimental option. First make sure that your Canary version is the latest version. The old version did not add this experimental feature so the option cannot be found.
