Abstract:

Microsoft officially announced more product details of its new generation of high-performance notebook Surface Laptop Ultra, and announced that the device has started pre-sale in the US market, with a starting price of US$2,599. As Microsoft's most powerful Surface notebook product to date, Surface Laptop Ultra is built around the new NVIDIA RTX Spark platform, focusing on local artificial intelligence computing, high-performance creation, and large-scale gaming application scenarios.

It is understood that Surface Laptop Ultra adopts NVIDIA's latest customized chip solution, integrating a high-energy-efficiency CPU and an RTX graphics processor based on the Blackwell architecture into the same system-on-chip. Microsoft said that the platform can provide up to 1 Petaflop (petaflop) of AI computing power and fully supports the CUDA ecosystem to meet the needs of complex AI reasoning and professional computing workloads.

Compared with traditional Windows notebooks using Intel or AMD processors, one of the biggest changes in Surface Laptop Ultra is the unified memory architecture design. The device can be equipped with up to 128GB of unified memory, and the CPU and GPU can dynamically share memory resources. Microsoft said that in the 128GB configuration, users can directly run artificial intelligence models with parameter sizes up to 120 billion locally without relying on cloud computing.

In order to cope with the heat dissipation requirements brought by high-performance computing, Microsoft also redesigned the cooling system for Surface Laptop Ultra. Official data shows that the heat capacity of this new cooling solution can be up to 2.5 times that of the seventh version of the 15-inch Surface Laptop, helping the device maintain stable performance output in high-load scenarios.

In terms of display, Surface Laptop Ultra is equipped with a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra mini-LED touch screen, which adopts a 3:2 display ratio, a pixel density of 262 PPI, and supports up to 2000 nits HDR peak brightness to meet the needs of professional creation and high dynamic range content display.

Despite its powerful hardware configuration, the thickness of the body is still controlled within 18 mm, and the entire machine weighs less than 4.5 pounds (approximately 2 kilograms). The product will be available in two appearance colors: Platinum (platinum gold) and Nightfall (late night color).

Microsoft has also expanded the area of the precision tactile touchpad, which is more than 30% higher than the seventh version of Surface Laptop, further optimizing the touch feedback experience and operating comfort.

In terms of interface configuration, Surface Laptop Ultra provides USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack and full-size SD card reader, covering mainstream expansion needs. In addition, this product is also equipped with the industry's first built-in USB-C magnetic charging solution, which improves connection convenience while taking into account versatility.

In terms of security features, Surface Laptop Ultra integrates a hardware-level root-of-trust security architecture that can be used to protect user credentials, encryption keys, and firmware security. It also supports Windows Hello face recognition to achieve password-less authentication.

Microsoft also announced that the "Call of Duty" series of games will be available on the Surface Laptop Ultra platform when it is officially launched in 2027. Microsoft and NVIDIA said that with the powerful graphics and AI performance of the RTX Spark platform, Surface Laptop Ultra can smoothly run hundreds of 3A game masterpieces.

Currently, Surface Laptop Ultra is available for pre-order in the US market, priced from $2,599, and is scheduled to start shipping next Friday.
