NVIDIA is rumored to launch a 24GB version of RTX 5080, expected to be available in the first quarter of 2027

Abstract:

NVIDIA reportedly plans to launch a GeForce RTX 5080 equipped with 24GB GDDR7 video memory in the first quarter of 2027 to replace the current 16GB version. The news comes from Taiwanese media Benchlife. NVIDIA has not announced this graphics card yet, and there is no public document or official confirmation of the rumor. Benchlife said that although board partners have been verbally informed of the new product plan, they have not yet received specific development information, so the release time and final specifications may change.

If the rumors are true, the main upgrade will be a 50% increase in video memory capacity. The RTX 5080 currently sold by NVIDIA uses the Blackwell architecture and is equipped with 10,752 CUDA cores, 16GB GDDR7 video memory and a 256-bit video memory interface. The official starting recommended price is US$999. The report speculates that the new version may use a single 3GB GDDR7 memory chip, taking the current configuration of 8 2GB each as a reference to form 24GB of video memory; however, whether there are other changes in the number of chips, frequency, bandwidth and graphics card have not been confirmed. The increase in video memory capacity itself does not mean that game performance will improve year-on-year.

It is speculated that the price of the new card may be close to US$2,000, due to the higher cost of higher-density GDDR7 particles and the tight supply of video memory. However, this is just a media estimate, not the leaked official pricing, and the final price may be very different. The report also describes the new product as the new flagship of the Blackwell GeForce product line. The background is another rumor that the RTX 5090 will stop supplying card manufacturers and GB202 chips will be transferred to RTX Pro products. NVIDIA has not confirmed that the RTX 5090 has been discontinued or terminated, so it cannot be concluded that the 24GB version of the RTX 5080 will replace the RTX 5090 as the performance flagship.

Currently, only the official specifications of the currently available RTX 5080 can be confirmed. The name, release time, price, core configuration and product relationship with the RTX 5090 of the 24GB version should be regarded as unconfirmed supply chain rumors.
