When consumers will see Apple's first M5 processor-based devices is becoming the focus of attention, and this transition is likely to start with Apple's MacBook Pro series. A new report from Bloomberg shows that Apple will start releasing Macs equipped with M5 processors in the fall of 2025.

Prior to this, the company was expected to launch M4 processor-based MacBook Air models as soon as March, followed by regular updates to the M4 series for MacStudio and MacPro.

The latter two products seem likely to be released at the WWDC conference in June. Following that event, the computing product line will likely begin transitioning to M5 chips in the fall.

It is also reported that the M5 chip will be used in new MacBook Pro models in the fall of 2025. The last two MacBook Pro updates were in October and November, so the interval is appropriate.

The iPad Pro is expected to adopt the M5 sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. Other Mac models may receive the M5 update during their normal release cycle. This will make it possible for the Macmini and iMac to receive the M5 upgrade before the end of 2025.

The Mac-first emphasis marks a change from the M4 cycle's approach, with the chip first debuting in the iPad Pro before entering the Mac camp. The M5 may also appear in the next version of Apple Vision Pro.
