On June 16, Meta announced the launch of a new search function called "AI Mode" within Facebook, relying on its Muse Spark artificial intelligence model to generate search results from cross-platform public content, replacing traditional "link-only" information display with AI answers.

In the existing Facebook search interface, when users enter keywords, in addition to the previous search categories such as "People" and "Marketplace", they will now see the new "AI Mode" option. After enabling this mode, the system will automatically organize and generate an answer written by AI based on the user's search terms. The corpus behind these answers comes from content publicly posted by users on Meta's platforms, including multiple applications including Facebook.

According to information released by Meta, the core of this new model is to make search no longer just jump links, but to extract conclusions from public discussions through the Muse Spark model, similar to the AI search function previously launched in its Reddit-like Forum application. After receiving the first round of AI answers, users can continue to ask additional questions to Meta’s AI, continuously refining search results and information granularity in conversational interactions.

From the perspective of implementation path, Meta’s approach is similar to the development direction of search giant Google in recent years. The latter has previously begun to call discussions in communities such as Reddit in search results and AI overviews, trying to use user-generated content as an important source of information for AI answers. Meta bluntly stated in the announcement that the new search model "uses Meta AI to provide you with answers based on public discussions across our applications" and emphasized that these answers are "based on people's publicly expressed opinions."

The Muse Spark AI model that supports this function is regarded by Meta as the basis for subsequent product form evolution. The company said that as the model continues to iterate, AI Mode will gradually unlock more capabilities, including directly quoting recommended content or sharing links on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads in answers, helping users obtain information while discovering more posts and creators related to their interests.

In addition to the AI search mode, Meta is also launching a series of new features around generative AI on Facebook. For example, in terms of picture editing, the platform has added photo presets that can automatically change elements such as jerseys, allowing users to "dress up" themselves into fans who support the team with one click. At the same time, it also provides tools such as collage template suggestions, using AI to generate layout plans for multiple picture combinations for users, lowering the threshold for content creation.

With the launch of Facebook AI Mode, Meta is further structuring and modeling the vast amount of public content on social networks, and injecting it back into the search and recommendation systems, using AI to reorganize user discussions and information flows. For users, the new function not only means that the search experience has changed to a "question-and-answer" and "conversational" style, but also implicitly amplifies the influence and visibility of their public posts on the overall information ecology.
