Intel Nova Lake processor appears with "BFC" suffix or identifies large-capacity cache model

📅 2026-10-13

Abstract:

The "BFC" suffix appears in the leaked model list of Intel's next-generation desktop processor Nova Lake-S. Models with this suffix seem to correspond to previously rumored processors equipped with a larger last-level cache; the related technology was previously called "bLLC" (large-capacity last-level cache), which was seen as Intel's response to AMD's 3D V-Cache game cache solution. However, Intel has not publicly stated what BFC stands for, nor has it officially confirmed the names of these products.

A desktop CPU list published by whistleblower Laurent’s Choice and quoted by many technology media lists multiple Core Ultra 4000 series Nova Lake-S processors, three of which have the BFC suffix. Rumored models include the Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC, Core Ultra 9 4900 BFC, and Core Ultra 7 4870K BFC; reports say the listings tie these models to bLLC large cache capabilities. It should be noted that this list has not been confirmed by Intel. The model, core configuration, power consumption and cache specifications may change before the official release. The product cannot be considered finalized at this stage.

bLLC points to the design idea of increasing the last level cache of the processor. After the cache capacity is increased, applications that are sensitive to data access delays, such as games, can theoretically allow the CPU to obtain the required data from the cache more frequently, reducing the number of times the system memory is accessed, thereby improving the performance of some scenarios. AMD's 3D V-Cache expands the available cache by stacking additional cache chips, but there is currently no official explanation as to whether Intel uses the same 3D stacking method, how the cache is connected to the computing core, and how the capacity and latency perform. Therefore, it is not rigorous to directly equate BFC with AMD's 3D V-Cache. At present, the two can only say that they have similar goals, but the specific implementation may be different.

TechPowerUp said that previously leaked model lists showed that the BFC suffix may be used to distinguish SKUs equipped with large caches; however, the site also pointed out that the complete meaning of BFC has not yet been determined. Intel has not yet released an official product catalog for Nova Lake-S, nor has it confirmed that this suffix belongs to the final market name. Nova Lake-S is expected to become part of Intel's subsequent desktop platform. Existing news points to its release time around 2027, but the relevant timetable also remains to be officially confirmed.
